Comic Con India announces winner of Country’s Premier  Cosplay Championship ‘Alto Indian Championship Of Cosplay’

  • Sameer Bundela wins the championship for his cosplay as Skywrath from Dota 2.

  • He will represent India at the Annual Crown Championships of Cosplay at Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo!


India, February 13’ 2017: Comic Con India announced the winner of Country’s Premier Cosplay Championship, ‘Alto Indian Championships Of Cosplay’. The 1st ever action packed Alto Indian Championship of Cosplay organized by Comic Con India received tremendous response from fans. The championship took place on February 12th 2017 at Ansal Plaza, New Delhi.
Comic Con India initiated the competition to encourage local cosplayers to go professional and provide them an International platform as well. The competition engaged thousands of fans as it sparked an opportunity to represent the country at the Annual Crown Championships of Cosplay at Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo!
The contender named Sameer Bundela who cosplayed as Skywrath from Dota 2 at Bengaluru Comic Con 2016, won the championship. As the winner, Sameer Bundela will receive an invitation to attend Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo to be held on April 21 -23’ 2017, where he will have the opportunity to enter directly into the championship round of Annual crown championship of Cosplay, the most prestigious cosplay competition in the world.

The Alto Indian Championship Of Cosplay Winner was selected from the 9 finalists of the cosplay competitions held across the country in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi. The 9 finalists represent some of the best cosplayers in the country. And they are judged on the following criteria - Authenticity, Technique & Fit of their costume along with an overall Larger than Life quality of their cosplay.
The judging team is made of up the Reedpop Content & marketing team, including members from India & Australia.

In addition to the main Indian champion, there was a "Fan Favourite" Award too, which was decided through an online poll. The contest received around 30000 votes over 35 days. The contender named Akhil Macharla from Hyderabad, who cosplayed as DAEDRIC from SKYRIM at Hyderabad Comic Con 2016, won the Fan Favourite Award by maximum votes. The winner, Akhil Macharla won a trip to Indonesia Comic Comic 2017. The winner was determined based on the overall efforts put in the costumes by every contestant and voting by fans for every competent.
Fans in the capital witnessed Biggest Joker Cosplayer gathering at the Alto Indian Championship of Cosplay, where all the Joker cosplayers gathered to set the record for the Biggest Joker gathering in India. The cosplayers also competed for the title of “Best Joker”.

For visitors who wanted to join in the fun of cosplay, participated in Fan Cosplay Contest which was open for all. Comic Con India under its 5 categories - 1. Comic book/graphic novel 2. Animated Series/Movie 3. Manga/Anime 4. Sci-Fi/Fantasy and 5. Gaming chose one winner in each category.
The event also featured an exciting speed painting session with Rohit Kumar, live music by Popular Band ‘Classic Collective’ & DJ ‘Nisheeth Rao’, along with great options for food & shopping.
Comic Con India has always been at the forefront of the promoting pop-culture eco-system and cosplay (costume play) forms a big part of that world. From 13 cosplayers at our first ever convention to upwards of 2500 cosplayers at our last show in Delhi, the cosplay community has come a long way in India in the past 6 years. And we plan to continue supporting it.
