An action packed 3rd Annual Indian Comics Convention is all set to entertain Indian audience at Capital’s Dilli Haat (INA), from February 8 – 10’ 2013 between 12 noon- 7pm. Some of the best International comics publishers are coming this year especially for this 3 day convention. One will find Top Cow, Drawn & Quarterly, Fantagraphics, First Second, Self Made Hero & Vertical Inc., exclusively at the 3rd Annual Indian Comic Con.
One of the newest things created for the 3rd CCI is the Artists’ Alley; which will feature an awesome gathering of artists, illustrators, designers working for comics and related popular arts fields.
Also, COSPLAY, the costume play contest, one of the major attractions at Comic Con India, this year has been revamped. Comic Con India will continue to give assured prizes to everyone in costume, but now there are categories that have been created to increase your chances of winning gifts. Each day, one winner will be chosen from each of five categories -
1. Comic book/Graphic novel
2. Animated Series/ Movie
3. Manga/Anime
4. Sci-Fi/ Fantasy
5. Gaming
One lucky winner out of the chosen 5 will get the awesome chance to WIN a TRIP to the Middle East Film & Comic Con held in Dubai in April!
Famous International personalities like Matt Hawkins, President and COO of Top Cow Productions; Peggy Burns, Associate Publisher of the renowned graphic novel publisher Drawn & Quarterly; Emma Hayley, Managing Director & Publisher, Self Made Hero and Calista Brill, Senior Editor at First Second Books, will be taking special sessions at 3rd Comic Con India.
Jatin Varma, Founder, Comic Con India, was happy to share that they will have a world famous MANGA publisher coming for the 1st time in India. He said, “Manga & Anime have tremendous following in India and this year we are really pushing to increase the genre’s presence at our event, with a official Vertical Inc booth! Vertical is one of the leading Manga publishers in the world and it gives us tremendous pleasure hosting them at the convention.”
Jatin added, “We also have world renowned artist and cartoonist Khalil, and the Famous Iranian-American human rights activist, journalist and writer Amir, as the special guests at the 3rd Annual Indian Comics Convention. Amir and Khalil are the Authors of “Zahra’s Paradise”, a graphic novel translated in sixteen languages. It is the story that takes place in the aftermath of the disputed Iran’s 2009 elections.”
The event will have stalls exhibiting, promoting and selling comics, graphic novels, merchandise etc. There will be Workshops and Interactive Sessions every hour at the dedicated stage area with exclusive launches of Comics titles, book signings, competitions etc.
Comic Con India will be announcing the launch of its very own online retail store ‘Pop Cracker’ for all comic fans across India; an e- store to pick up the latest Indian and International comics, graphic novels, merchandise, toys and more. The idea is to provide the shopping experience of comic con throughout the year to fans and reach out to fans in cities where the event is not organized.
Amar Chitra Katha (ACK) will be conducting fun activities such as songs & games, arts & crafts, making comics, live sketching and many more throughout the 3 days for children of all ages as well as for adults.
One of the main attractions at this year’s Comics Convention is the Special Unveiling of ‘Satya Police’, a graphic novel. Last year, CCI announced the publication of ‘Satya Police’ by Mohit Srivastav & Gagandeep Kochar, the first-ever winners of the 1st Comic Con India Awards Grant. They won a cash prize of Rs.50, 000 & a publication deal from Pop Culture Publishing.
Comic Con India is a unique event celebrating the illustrated medium, which brings together the whole comics industry and related fields such as Merchandise, Toys, Games, Films and Animation, along with fans of this culture from all age groups.
