There are numerous cartoons that have made us laugh or impressed us for their satirical content. But they have these great cartoonists behind them who have always given their best to entertain the audience with their works. On World Cartoonists Day we list 6 eminent members from the field of cartooning...

R. K. Laxman
The most distinguished cartoonist, illustrator, and humorist from India, is the proud recipient of several awards like Padma Vibhushan, Lifetime Achievement Award for Journalism, along with others. He is best known for his creation ‘The Common Man’. The man continues to appear in a daily comic strip titled “You Said It” for a major Indian news publication since 1951.

Motu Patlu was a very reckoned comic characters that appeared in the Lotpot Magazine in the 70’s The character was created by Kripa Shankar Bhardwaj and one of the most celebrated cartoonist from India and one of the first exponents of this developing art in India. Motu Patlu in its present avatar has evolved into a television series.
Mario Miranda
Mario Miranda
Based out of Loutolim in Goa, Miranda was a popular and respected cartoonist in India. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2012. His works appeared in several major news publications in Mumbai and other parts of India. But it was his works published in The Illustrated Weekly of India that got him the accolades he deserved. Some of Miranda's great art works make the walls of Café Mondegor resplendent.

Popularly known as VINS, Vijay is a well-known Indian cartoonist and illustrator. He considered Mario Miranda as his mentor and was also the first Indian cartoonist to be appointed in Reader’s Digest magazine. His satirical cartoons are part of a permanent collection at the International Cartoon Museum and the Karikatur & Cartoon Museum in Basel, Switzerland. His works have appeared in several newspapers and publications around the world and have entertained people.

Disney set up the Disney Brothers Studio, which later became the Walt Disney Animation Studios. Walt Disney and a colleague, Ub Iwerks, developed the character, Mickey Mouse, which quickly became popular. Disney has always entertained the kids with cuteness and fun packed cartoons of his.

Walter Crawford Kelly
Kelly was an American animator and cartoonist, best known for the comic strip Pogo. He began his animation career at Walt Disney Studios, contributing to Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Dumbo. In 1941 Kelly transferred to work at Dell Comics, where he created Pogo, which eventually became his platform for political and philosophical commentary.
